Corpus Juridisch Nederlands

English version

The Corpus Juridisch Nederlands (corpus of legal Dutch) contains a collection of 5,856 legal texts, which could be consulted from the mid-eighties until 1992 as N-Lex, a database of current Dutch legislation. (Note that the current website N-Lex contains the consolidated Dutch legislation which is or has been in force since 1 May 2002.)

The material of the Corpus Juridisch Nederlands has been made available by the Centre for Information Technology and Law of the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. The documents cover the time period from 1814 to 1989, and are arranged by year. Only a few French texts and a few undated texts from the first N-Lex database have not been included in the corpus.

The Corpus Juridisch Nederlands was first published in 1996 as a part of the 38 million words corpus, made by the Institute for Dutch Lexicology. In 2014, the legal texts were released again, but this time as a component of the Corpus Juridisch Nederlands.

Because the legal texts in question date from 1814 to 1989, they are out of place in the most recent version of the Corpus of Contemporary Dutch, of 2021. For this reason, it has been decided to incorporate these texts in a separate – historic – corpus. Since September 2021 this Corpus of Legislative Dutch has been freely accessible –without login – to everyone.
